Talk to me about FODMAPs

FODMAP stands for Fermentable Oligo-saccharides, Di-Saccharides, Mono-saccharides and Polyols). They are a group of sugars that can be poorly absorbed in the small intestine and fermented by bacteria to produce gas. Recent research into diet and Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), which is a common Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder (FGID), strongly suggests that these sugars contribute to IBS/FGID symptoms. These symptoms include lower abdominal pain, bloating, wind, diarrhea and constipation.

None of these symptoms sound pleasant and they are also symptoms often complained about with regard to typical sports nutrition products. So the Megabake Bakers decided to create a bar using only lowFODMAP ingredients to produce a FODMAP-friendly bar.

If you want to know more about FODMAPs, we use and trust the research out of Monash University.
